It's a strange and scary time to be an employee. With Amazon being the latest to announce layoffs, the mood this month, as we go into Thanksgiving, is uncertain.

It's the season for layoffs. And while there can be many reasons for a layoff, for the individual, it's always personal, it's always difficult, and there's no perfect way to prepare for it.
Perhaps, the next best thing to do is to hear from those who've been through it and maybe take some heart from the fact that they survived, and even thrived. Here's one you could listen in to.

Bonuses are discretionary. Even when one’s basic salary is the same, bonuses can continue to perpetuate disparities in pay. An ADP study reveals that the bonus amount for women was less than two-thirds of the amount paid to men who had equivalent base pay, age, and tenure. And then performance reviews. That’s another place where bias thrives. A 2015 study shows that men earn 35% more performance bonuses than women.
Pay transparency is, undoubtedly, a great step in the right direction. But we must all agree that it is still just the first step.
